Nikon Announces New Coolpix Cameras

Nikon has announced five new Coolpix digital compact cameras bound for Singapore, including three superzooms, one rugged and one entry-level model. The P520 comes with a 42x optical zoom and built-in GPS, the L820 with 30x optical zoom, the S9400 with 18x optical zoom, the rugged AW110 with built-in Wi-Fi as well as GPS and the entry-level L27 which runs on AA alkaline batteries.

Coolpix P520

The Coolpix P520 is the latest high-performance bridge camera from Nikon that comes with the longest focal length in Coolpix's history, a 42x optical zoom lens that has a 35mm equivalent of 24mm to 1000mm. An Active mode has been added to the lens-shift vibration reduction (VR) mechanism to help reduce blur caused by camera shake while hand-holding the camera in a moving vehicle.

The P520 comes with a large 3.2" vari-angle TFT LCD monitor and a backside illumination 18MP CMOS sensor. The camera can record Full-HD 1080/60i/50i movies and has a built-in GPS with point of interest (POI) display. The P520 does not come with built-in Wi-Fi, but is compatible with Nikon's Wireless Mobile Adapter WU-1a (sold separately) and the Nikon Wireless Mobile Utility app for Android and iOS.

Coolpix L820

The Coolpix L820 comes with a 30x optical zoom with a 35mm equivalent focal length of 22.5mm to 675mm. It's built with a 16MP backside illuminated CMOS sensor, lens-shift VR and a 3" VGA LCD monitor. The camera can also record Full-HD video at 1920 x 1080. The L820 runs on four AA akaline batteries.

Coolpix S9400

The Coolpix S9400 offers a long 18x optical zoom in a small body, with a minimum focusing distance of 1cm and a 35mm equivalent focal length of 25mm to 450mm. The camera comes with a 1/2.3" backside illumination 18MP CMOS sensor with lens-shift VR. It has a large 3" 614k-dot OLED monitor and can record Full-HD 1080/30p video with stereo sound.

Coolpix AW110/AW110s

The rugged Nikon AW110/AW110s is the successor to the AW100, Nikon's first tough, waterproof and coldproof camera. The camera has a 5x optical zoom lens, a 16MP backside illumination CMOS sensor, built-in Wi-FI as well as built-in GPS and digital altimeter, depth gauge and atmospheric pressure display.

The AW110/AW110s is waterproof to a depth of 18m, shock-proof to falls from up to 2m, and cold-proof to -10 degrees Celsius. It comes with a large 3" OLED monitor with an anti-reflection coating and can record Full-HD 1920 x 1080 movies with stereo sound.

Coolpix L27

The L27 is an entry-level Coolpix, with a 16MP CCD sensor, a 5x optical zoom lens and a 2.7" TFT LCD screen. The camera can record movies in HD and runs on AA alkaline batteries.

The new Coolpix compacts are expected to reach Singapore by end March, with pricing yet to be announced.
