Nikon announces launch of their latest mirrorless camera, the Nikon 1 J5

The Nikon 1 J5 will come in black, silver and white.

The new Nikon 1 J5 seems to be a most exciting product, with a 20.8-megapixel backside-illumination CMOS image sensor (the first in a Nikon 1 series camera), and a brand new EXPEED 5A image-processing engine. It also boasts the world’s fastest continuous shooting at approximately 20 frames per second and the world shortest shooting time lag (between interchangeable lens cameras), making it one extremely speedy camera.

To help you take full advantage of the continuous shooting capabilities of the Nikon 1 J5, Sports mode has been included which allows you to make quick adjustments to the settings that most affect continuous shooting. Images captured as a burst in this mode will also display as a group in playback, making it easier for you to sort through them to find the best shot.

The inclusion of Sports mode should make capturing action a cinch.

The Nikon 1 J5 - now with selfie mode.

Like the Nikon 1 J4 before it, the Nikon 1 J5 also comes with a touch screen LCD monitor, but the J5's LCD now tilts a full 180 degrees, making it extremely selfie-friendly. The J5 also features built-in NFC and Wi-Fi, a command dial to make it faster for you to make adjustments, and is the first camera from Nikon to support 4K (3840 × 2160/15p) video recording . 4K movie clips up to ten minutes long can be recorded, and the J5 also gains the ability to shoot time-lapse videos, putting yet another tool to your disposal.

The J5 is the first Nikon 1 series camera with a tilting LCD screen.

The inclusion of a touch screen means the rear of the camera can stay relatively clean.

Expect perfectly focused images with superb detail thanks to the excellent advanced hybrid AF system (with a total of 171 AF points across the frame) and the new EXPEED 5A image-processing engine, which suppresses noise effectively throughout the ISO range of 160-12800. This noise reduction and Active D-lighting can also be applied in movie mode, so that should help with those high-contrast or back-lit scenes.

The J5 retains a pop-up flash.

The NIKON 1 J5 will be available by end April 2015 or early May 2015 in three colours (white, black, and silver) with the 1 NIKKOR VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 PD-ZOOM lens, or the double zoom kit with both the 1 NIKKOR VR 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 PD-ZOOM lens and 1 NIKKOR VR 30-110mm f/3.8-5.6 lens.

Pricing is yet to be announced.
