Nikon announces launch of the AF-S NIKKOR 500MM F/4E FL ED VR and AF-S NIKKOR 600MM F/4E FL ED VR

Hiroaki Ono, General Manager of International Marketing Division Imaging Group, Nikon Singapore Pte Ltd, says that both the AF-S NIKKOR 500MM F/4E FL ED VR and AF-S NIKKOR 600MM F/4E FL ED VR expand the potential of image creation, bringing familiar reliability and optical precision in packages that are significantly lighter in weight.

The new lenses weigh in at 3090g and 3810g respectively, compared to 3880g and 5060g in the previous versions. Both also incorporate Fluorite lens elements for superior optical precision to match their lighter bodies. The weight savings come from the use of magnesium alloy in the construct of the lens barrels which maintains durability while being significantly lighter. Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass and Nano Crystal Coat have also been employed to complement the Fluorite lens elements, allowing for vibrant, accurate colors without unwanted lens flare and chromatic aberration.

The AF-S Nikkor 500mm f/4E FL ED VR is 790g lighter than Nikon's previous 500mm prime.

The AF-S Nikkor 500mm f/4E FL ED VR gives you the reach you need to capture images like this.

Superior Autofocusing technology helps to keep erratic moving subjects like this surfer in focus.

That’s backed up by Nikkor’s Vibration Reduction System with “Sport” and “Normal” modes that are engineered to match exactly what you’re trying to capture: Normal mode offers the equivalent compensation of 4.0 stops, stabilizing the image in the viewfinder so you can easily compose your shots. Meanwhile, Sport mode offers excellent subject tracking so even fast moving subjects like surfers or birds in flight can be captured with minimal image shake.

Both lenses also have the benefit of Nikon’s superior autofocus tracking that’s complemented by a reliable auto-exposure control that uses an electromagnetic aperture mechanism to precisely adjust the aperture values for better accuracy.

The AF-S Nikkor 600mm f/4E FL ED VR is some 1250g lighter than Nikon's previous 600mm prime.
