Rumours have surfaced about the next Xbox console, tentatively called “Xbox Prime”, potentially launching in 2026 alongside Infinity Ward’s next Call of Duty title.

The information comes from a Call of Duty leaker known as TheGhostOfHope, who shared details suggesting that the new console could be arriving sooner than expected. However, the leaker further clarified that “Xbox Prime” might be a codename rather than the final branding.

The next-generation console from Xbox is rumoured to feature advanced graphical upgrades, better cloud capabilities, and AI enhancements, building on details revealed during the Microsoft vs. FTC court case. Despite these rumours, Xbox chief Phil Spencer previously stated that some of the leaked information from the court case was outdated. Additionally, the leaker mentioned that a rumoured Xbox handheld device could follow the next console, though no specific timeline has been provided.

The typical console generation lasts around seven to eight years, and the Xbox Series X|S launched in 2020. If the 2026 release for the next Xbox is accurate, it would mark a shorter-than-usual cycle. However, Microsoft has not officially confirmed any details regarding the launch of a new console or handheld device. Jez Corden, a Microsoft insider, responded to the rumours, calling the claims about the 2026 launch "not true," adding even more uncertainty to the situation.

Besides the next console, Phil Spencer has recently confirmed that Microsoft is exploring possibilities for handheld gaming devices, with prototypes reportedly in the works. While there is no clear timeline for their release, Microsoft's interest in handheld gaming aligns with growing market popularity, as devices like the Lenovo Legion Go, ROG’s Ally X, and other handhelds continue to fame.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has plans to celebrate Xbox and Halo’s 25th anniversary in 2026, which could align with significant announcements about the company's gaming future. For now, we’ll just have to wait for official updates to see if the next Xbox will truly launch alongside a major Call of Duty release.
