Next iPhone SE could be based on the iPhone XR
The latest word on the street is that Apple's next iPhone SE could be based on the iPhone XR from 2018.
This is according to Ross Young, an analyst from Display Supply Chain Consultants, who has had a pretty good track record when it comes to predicting Apple's plans – particularly if displays are concerned.
According to Young, Apple will release a new iPhone sometime in 2024 and it will have a 6.1-inch display with a notch.
Young did not specify if the notch will have a TrueDepth camera enabling Face ID but that certainly seems possible because the iPhone XR did not have a Touch ID button.
However, some believe that Apple might add Touch ID to the side button like how it's currently done on the iPad Air and iPad Mini.
More importantly, if this rumour is true, it would be a major redesign for the iPhone SE, which has, for the last two generations, been based on the iPhone 8 from 2017.
The update would be timely given that current generation iPhone SE only has a 4.7-inch which is absolutely tiny by today's standards.
