New Star Wars themed SMRT trains greeted with mixed reactions

The artist's impression of the trains looks a bit one sided. The First Order gets a lot of representation, but the New Republic/ Resistance only gets Threepio, Artoo and BB-8. Image source: SMRT.

In case you haven't heard, SMRT and Disney are collaborating to deck out SMRT's trains in Star Wars themes. The trains will be coming into service mid December, right around the time the latest Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, releases.

Now that the news has sunk in, most are viewing it with derision, as can be read in our forums.

Many view it as a waste of time, time that should be spent on train maintenance and efforts to prevent disruptions. Some users on the other hand, question whether the new look would even be visible as SMRT trains are constantly full of passengers. We tend to agree with the latter, especially with the images that are plastered on the panels that bookend the seats. They'll be obscured the moment somebody stands in front of them.

The decision has also spawned 'suggestions' on what could make the whole experience better, such as this one on Vulcan Post.

Like it or not though, chances are we'll still be riding them in a few weeks.
