Seagate has announced two new SSDs that it says will help them address performance and storage density issues in data centres.

The company says that the Nytro 5550 and Nytro 5350 SSDs come engineered with Phison technology for high performance, efficiency, and increased storage density in data centres.

The partnership between Seagate and Phison which began in 2017 was expanded in April this year.

Initially concerned with mainstream SATA SSDs, it is now focused on meeting enterprise demand for higher density, faster, and smarter storage infrastructure needs for enterprise applications such as hyperscale data centres, high-performance computing, and AI.

Seagate claims that the Nytro 5350 PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD doubles the read throughput of current SAS SSDs. It has up to 7.4GB/s bandwidth and random read speeds of up to 1.7M IOPS and random write speeds of up to 195K IOPS. Shipping in two form factors, the Nytro 5350 goes up to 15.36TB in a 15mm form factor and up to 7.68TB in a 7mm form factor with dual ports, supporting both U.2 and U.3 interfaces for active-active high availability. Designed to take on enterprise workloads, the Nytro 5350 drive offers 1 DWPD at 2.5 million hours MTBF for increased endurance.

The Nytro 5550 PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD has random write speeds of up to 470K IOPS and speeds Random read speeds up to 1.7M IOPS. Designed for mixed workloads, it offers 3 DWPD at 2.5M hours MTBF for endurance and reliability. In 15mm form factor, the Nytro 5550 can fit up to 12.8 TB of storage, and 6.4 TB in the 7mm form factor.

In addition, to preserve data integrity and help prevent data loss in the event of unexpected power failure, the Nytro 5050 series of drives include power loss data protection, SED TCG security, and a five-year limited warranty.
