The new Samsung Galaxy Home smart speaker supports Bixby and SmartThings

It’s only a matter of time Samsung makes a smart speaker, and the time is now. Alongside the Galaxy Note9 and Galaxy Watch, the South Korean tech giant has today also unveiled the Galaxy Home, a high-end smart speaker that works with the company’s Bixby smart assistant.

Looking like a little vase with three metal legs, the Galaxy Home has six AKG-tuned speakers and a subwoofer. “Hi, Bixby” is the hotword to activate the assistant, and according to Samsung, the speaker is able to pick up your voice even from across the room thanks to eight far-field mics. It also has a SoundSteer tech for automatically adjusting sound output based on where it's placed in the room.

Details of the Galaxy Home are still pretty scant at the moment, but we do know that the speaker can also be used as a SmartThings hub for controlling compatible smart home devices. It will also support Spotify.

Samsung says it will share more about the Galaxy Home at a developer conference in November, which suggests it’s still many months out before we can pick one up in the store.
