The new Razer BlackWidow Ultimate will now resist water and dust with an IP54 rating

Razer has announced an improved version of its flagship BlackWidow Ultimate mechanical keyboard that can stand up to the elements.

Well, sort of anyway. The new keyboard is both water- and dust-resistant, with an IP54 rating, so it’ll live through accidental water spillage and keep pesky dust particles out.

If you want to dig into the details, the “5” means that ingress of dust is not completely prevented, but it will not enter in sufficient quantities to affect the keyboard operation.

Similarly, don’t expect to be able to submerge the BlackWidow Ultimate in water, as the “4” rating only guarantees it against water splashes. It’s not quite clear how much water this means, but Razer’s press images show the keyboard sitting under a veritable rainstorm.

Whatever the case, the IP54 rating is probably more than sufficient for regular use cases. This is also Razer’s first keyboard to incorporate water- and dust-resistance, and it’s a welcome upgrade considering that it’s not uncommon to bring food and drinks to your table in the middle of a long gaming session.

That aside, the keyboard shares much in common with its predecessor, including Razer Green mechanical switches that feature a tactile bump and click and a 50g actuation force. However, this isn’t a Chroma model, so there’s just a single-color green backlight. Finally, you also get individually programmable keys that support on-the-fly macro recording.

The new BlackWidow Ultimate is now available to buy for S$179.90 on Razer's online store
