New QNAP TS-233 NAS comes with in-built Neural network Processing Unit

QNAP’s new TS-233 NAS has gone personal in form and function as the new two-bay NAS comes targeting users looking for a personal NAS.

The TS-233 comes powered by an ARM Cortex-A55 quad-core 2 GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, a one Gigabit LAN port, and support for two hot-swappable 3.5-inch/2.5-inch SATA 6Gb/s HDDs or SSDs. For security, it features AES-NI 256 hardware-accelerated encryption for both full NAS volumes and shared folders, boosting system performance while securing sensitive data.

Pairing the neural processing unit (NPU) with QNAP’s AI-powered photo management tool, QuMagie, and you get a solution to replace Google Photos that has facial recognition, subject identification and geography tagging of the photos on your NAS and can group them together in albums like "People", "Things", "Places", and "Events".

Beyond photos, there is also Video Station and Music Station so users can centrally store and manage all their videos and music files. In addition, the TS-233 supports ARM NEON technology that accelerates video processing for a “greater entertainment experience”.

To prevent falling victim to ransomware attacks like some other NASs, QNAP provides snapshots as standard for all NAS – including the TS-233. Snapshots work by recording the current state of the system and can be used together with the “Storage and Snapshotsapp to create multi-version snapshots of your NAS for restoration if hit by ransomware.

The previous two-bay NAS from QNAP that we covered was the baby-blue TS-230 that lacked the new NPU.

Brought to Singapore by Convergent Systems (S) Pte Ltd, the TS-233 will be available by mid-May with a two-year warranty for S$349 for the NAS enclosure. Note that you will need to buy the HDDs or SSDs to populate it.
