The new Home Max is Google’s big smart speaker for maximum sound

If the cute new Google Home Mini is too, well, mini for you, then take a listen to the Home Max, a larger version of the smart speaker.

The Home Max features dual 4.5-inch woofers and custom 0.7” tweeters covered by fabric, with far-field microphones that are supposed to hear your queries even when the music is playing.

A new machine learning feature called Smart Sound is supposed to tune the Max automatically for the room to create the best acoustics, adjusting for the audio you’re listening to, like songs, podcasts or phone calls. And like the Google Home and Home Mini, the Home Max lets you activate Google Assistant with your voice.

The Home Max can be placed vertically or horizontally, and it stands using magnetic stands, so you can easily change them around. You can also pair two of them to create stereo sound. The Home Max isn’t just a wireless speaker, with the ability to link up to Chromecast speakers. It also connects via a 3.5mm audio jack, as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The Home Max will be available in chalk and charcoal, retail for US$399 and launch in December in the US, with more countries slated for launch next year. Unfortunately, like with the Google Home Mini, there’s no mention of Singapore.
