The new ESET 10 secures your webcam, protects your passwords, and keeps you safe online

ESET has launched version 10 of its internet security suite for home users, with a core focus on faster, lighter performance and proactive threat detection. There are four packages in the ESET portfolio to choose from:

  1. ESET NOD32 Antivirus
  2. ESET Internet Security
  3. ESET Multi-Device Security
  4. ESET Smart Security Premium

ESET NOD32 Antivirus does what it says on the box, with features like antivirus, anti-spyware and anti-phishing to protect you from the worst of the internet. It introduces new Script-based Attack Protection which blocks malicious Windows PowerShell and Java-based attacks.

ESET Internet Security amps up the protection with more features like a personal firewall, webcam protection (new) and home network protection (new). Webcam protection is especially useful if you’re not keen on taping up your camera to prevent being spied on (webcam spying is, unfortunately, real and prevalent). Note that webcam protection here refers to cameras on your PC or attached to it, not IP cameras (IP camera spying is also, worryingly, a real and prevalent thing).

The new home protection lets you test your home routers’ vulnerabilities, such as weak passwords or out-of-date firmware (routers can also be hijacked, as evidenced in the recent massive Mirai botnet attacks). However, you’ll need to patch these vulnerabilities with the manufacturer’s firmware, however, as ESET doesn’t install protection software onto routers. The feature also shows you a list of connected devices, so you can see if anyone is tapping onto your Wi-Fi.

ESET Multi-Device Security adds an anti-theft feature and lets you secure multiple devices, including your smartphones and tablets. ESET Smart Security Premium comes with everything, including the new ESET Password Manager which helps you safeguard and manage your passwords, as well as the new ESET Secure Data, which lets you encrypt your data.

ESET’s official website has a good comparison chart to help you compare the various packages’ full list of features. ESET version 10 is available for download now, the suite runs on a subscription basis. ESET NOD32 Antivirus costs US$20 for 1 user for 1 year, ESET Internet Security costs US$30 for 1 user for 1 year, ESET Smart Security Premium costs US$50 for 1 user for 1 year, and ESET Multi-Device Security costs US$50 for 3 users for 1 year, or US$70 for 5 users for 1 year.
