Hide your graphics cards, because a new Crysis game is coming to melt them.

Remember those Crysis games? The first-person shooter games published by Electronic Arts that famously featured cutting-edge graphics that few computers could actually run at the time? Well, a new game in the series might be on its way! The official Crysis Twitter account has sprung back to life after four years of inactivity to deliver a very cryptic message:

That tweet by itself is already suspect, but Crytek also recently put up a new website for Crysis which featured the franchise's main character with brand-new visuals. The website went online on April Fool’s Day, which fuelled distrust of any Crysis-related announcements at the time - but none have been made so far. The website still stands as it is, and Crytek hasn’t said a word about it since.

Crytek also seemed to tease an upcoming Crysis remaster in a recent video showcasing Cryengine games in the last decade. The video recaps all the games developed using their game engine, but at the very end - it shows off footage from Crysis 1, remastered with higher visual fidelity. No explanation was given afterwards on where the footage came from.

One would think that a new Crysis game is in the works instead of a remaster, considering that the first game has aged extremely well, visually. There’s a reason why the ‘But can it run Crysis?’ meme exists, after all.

Brands like NVIDIA GeForce, Xbox and Corsair have responded to this enigmatic tweet in excitement, so it’s safe to say that we’ll learn about what exactly the Crysis team is cooking up very soon.
