Adding onto the wearable trend at CES 2016 is the American footwear maker, New Balance. The company just announced that it has created a new division, New Balance Digital Sport that is dedicated to connecting consumers with technology to improve their fitness performance.

The aim of New Balance Digital Sport is to "develop a comprehensive athlete-focused digital ecosystem" which will see the company collaborate with leading digital, hardware and software firms such as Intel and Google to make wearable consumer products. Three main product categories have been highlighted as its initial focus - devices, embedded technology (e.g. intelligent sensors) and performance sport (e.g. sports equipment micro-fob).

The first product from New Balance Digital Sport will be a smartwatch that is specifically designed for runners. It will track runners' routes via GPS and let them run with music without the need for a smartphone. It is stated to run on Google's Android Wear OS.

Besides the smartwatch which will be launched in holiday 2016, New Balance says that it will offer other devices in the next two years.
