New Apple Watch design tipped to arrive in 2021 alongside 120Hz iPhone

The Apple Watch Series 5.

While Apple is going to unveil several new hardware products tomorrow morning, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shares his predictions on the 2021 models of the Apple Watch and iPhone.

The Apple Watch Series 7 is said to have a "significant form factor design change" and would arrive as early as the second half of 2021. The upcoming Apple Watch Series 6 is expected to retain the same design as the Series 5 and Series 4, but the "major selling point" this year is the blood oxygen sensor. This feature has been reported by DigiTimes and revealed in iOS 14 code snippets.

As for the iPhone, Kuo says 120Hz displays will only arrive next year. Apple is believed to have ditched plans to equip this year's iPhones with this feature due to concerns over battery life. The 2021 iPhone will use LTPO technology to minimise power consumption and provide sufficient battery headroom for 120Hz displays.

More iPad models with Touch ID functionality in the side button will arrive in 2021. The iPad Air 4, which is said to be unveiled tomorrow, will be the first Apple device to feature Touch ID in the power button.
