Watch the trailer for Netflix's new horror series Locke and Key

Netflix is heading into the world of whimsical horror with their new series, Locke and Key. The show is based on Joe Hill (Stephen King’s son) and Gabriel Rodriguez’s widely celebrated comic series of the same name.

Locke and Key revolves around three siblings who return to their ancestral home in Maine after the grotesque death of their father. They soon discover that the house has several magical keys that give them different powers and abilities - but they don’t know that a scheming demon also wants the keys, and will stop at nothing to get them.

Jackson Robert Scott, who played Georgie in It and It Chapter Two, stars alongside Connor Jessup and Emilia Jones as the Locke siblings. Darby Stanchfield and Bill Heck play their parents, with the latter only appearing in flashbacks as the late father. You can also check out the show’s opening scene here:

Overall, the trailer makes the show seem a little more whimsical than the gruesome tone of the comics, but it might just be setting up for a horrific bait-and-switch later. Come for the fantasy, stay for the string of brutal murders.

Locke and Key will arrive on Netflix on February 7, 2020.
