Netflix's Korean sci-fi blockbuster Space Sweepers will arrive in February

Netflix has announced a release date for their upcoming sci-fi blockbuster Space Sweepers: February 5, 2020. The South Korean film was originally meant to hit theaters much earlier, but got delayed multiple times due to the ongoing pandemic. Now, it’s coming to the streaming service without a theatrical run.

Watch Netflix’s new trailer for the movie below:

Space Sweeper is set in 2092, focusing on the spaceship Victory - one of many that live off salvaging space debris in this new age. The ship is crewed with genius space pilot Tae-ho (Song Joong-Ki), mysterious ex-space pirate Captain Jang (Kim Tae-Ri), spaceship engineer Tiger Park (Jin Sun-Kyu) and reprogrammed military robot Bubs (Yoo Hai-Jin).

Victory is a spaceship that surpasses all other space sweepers, but after successfully snatching a crashed space shuttle, its crew finds a 7-year-old girl inside. After realising that she’s a humanlike robot wanted by UTS Space Guards, they decide to demand ransom in exchange.

Honestly, Space Sweepers sounds like it might fill the Firefly-sized hole in my heart, which already sounds enticing. The film is directed by Jo Sung-hee (A Werewolf Boy, Phantom Detective), and will hit Netflix on February 5, 2020. In the meantime, check out all the other movies and TV shows out this month!
