The globally popular Netflix show, Squid Game, is gearing up for its second season with the addition of eight new cast members.

The new faces, including Park Gyu-young, Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, and Won Ji-an, are joining the ensemble. They will be acting alongside returning cast members Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byun-hun, Hwang Jun-ho, Gong Yoo, as well as other new entrants Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-geun.

The actors have already assembled for their inaugural script-reading session for the second season. Filming is expected to kick off later in the year. The second season will again be guided by the series' creator, director, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk, who will direct all episodes.

For now, the specifics about the characters that the newly-inducted actors will portray are under wraps.

Notably, several of these fresh entrants to Squid Game have been part of other Netflix's Korean series. Both Park and Lee Jin-uk have roles in Sweet Home's first two seasons, Kang featured in Move to Heaven, and Won made his first appearance in D.P.'s inaugural season. Lee David and Lee Jin-uk have previously collaborated with Hwang on other projects.

Debuting in October 2021, Squid Game quickly skyrocketed to be Netflix's most successful series ever. With 2.2 billion hours viewed worldwide in its initial 13 weeks and an equivalent of 265.2 million complete season one runs based on Netflix's updated viewing metrics, the series broke all records. It also bagged six Emmys in 2022, with awards for best actor in a drama series going to Lee Jung-jae and best director of a drama series awarded to Hwang.

Kim Ji-yeon and Hwang jointly serve as executive producers for the series.
