Netflix is making a Bird Box spin-off set in Spain
Netflix's hit post-apocalyptic thriller Bird Box is getting a spin-off, but it won't feature Sandra Bullock. Bird Box Barcelona takes viewers to Barcelona, Spain, providing another perspective on how the apocalypse unfolded.
The mysterious creatures that compel everyone who sees them to kill themselves (or drive them to madness) are wreaking havoc in Barcelona, and the trailer shows people leaping from buildings and smashing their heads against windows.
There are, of course, also the mandatory blindfolds, as people seek to escape the gruesome fate the creatures inflict. Despite its grim premise, 2018's Bird Box ended on an uplifting note, with Malorie, played by Bullock, successfully leading her children to a community of survivors located in a former school for the blind.
However, save for the hazy drawings of the entities that we saw in Bird Box, it's still up to anyone's imagination what they really look like. Bird Box Barcelona teases that we may finally get some answers, with the trailer ending with the caption "Are you ready to see?"
There's also a lot more of Bird Box in the works. In fact, Barcelona is just the first in a series of spin-offs that have been planned, each set in a different country.
Bird Box Barcelona premieres on Netflix on July 14.
