Netflix's Dota: Dragon's Blood anime series will drop on March 25
Netflix has just announced DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, an all-new anime series based on Valve’s wildly popular Dota videogame franchise. The anime series will consist of eight episodes, all set to drop at once on March 25, 2021.
Watch a trailer for the series below:
Netflix’s description for the series reads: “The upcoming fantasy series tells the story of Davion, a renowned Dragon Knight devoted to wiping the scourge from the face of the world. Following encounters with a powerful, ancient eldwurm as well as the noble Princess Mirana on a secret mission of her own, Davion becomes embroiled in events much larger than he could have ever imagined.”
Showrunner and executive producer Ashley Edward Miller (X-Men: First Class, Thor, Black Sails) said:
Fans will love how we’ve imagined the DOTA 2 universe and woven together an epic, emotional, and adult-oriented story about some of their favorite characters. The cinematic animation, acting and music are simply next level and I’m grateful to Valve for supporting our creative ambitions.
Studio Mir (The Legend of Korra, Voltron: Legendary Defender) is behind the animation of Dota: Dragon’s Blood, and Ryu Ki Hyun serves as co-executive producer. It’s definitely going to be interesting to see how Netflix spins a MOBA into an anime series, but this could be the first step into a larger world of media for the Dota franchise. Live-action movie when?
