MSI unleashes the Z97S SLI Krait edition motherboard!

MSI has just announced the Z97S SLI Krait edition ATX motherboard. According to the company, the board was designed in collaboration with world class case modders; however, the features of this board hark back to the basics of the Intel Z97 chipset.

There is neither a fancy onboard audio system nor buttons that allow for system tweaking. Instead, there’s support for M.2 and SATA Express devices. The lone M.2 connector can fit a 4.2-/ 6-/ 8cm long module. A single SATA Express connector is grouped together with the four remaining SATA 6Gbps connectors. The board features high quality Military Class IV VRM components, and a pair of well-spaced out PCIe Gen 3.0 x16 slots. They support both 2-way NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFireX setups.

The other expansion slots include three PCIe 2.0 x1 slots, and a pair of legacy PCI ones. The motif of the krait, which is a venomous snake, is probably the most unique feature of the new board, other than its new color scheme. MSI’s new efforts appears to be the company’s tentative steps to move away from its usual color patterns. They may have taken a leaf from ASUS’ book when the latter unveiled their ASUS X99 Deluxe that supports the new LGA2011-3 Intel Haswell-E processors.
