MSI R9 280X Gaming 3G Price Lowered to S$479 from Launch Price of S$529

MSI has just reduced the price of its first AMD R9 280X-based graphics card. The new MSI R9 280X Gaming 3G retails for S$479 now, after a S$50 reduction from its launch price of S$529.

The price reduction came as a surprise as the card was just launched last week. This puts the MSI card priced squarely between a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 and GTX 770 graphics card. A quick check with the price lists of Sim Lim Square retailers revealed that other add-in graphics cards partners like Gigabyte has followed suit, with the Gigabyte GV R928XOC-3GD retailing at S$449. Hence, chances of the other brands re-pricing their R9 280X-based wares are very likely. This will in-turn make the Radeon R9-280X graphics cards a much better proposition to the GeForce GTX 760 and even the existing Radeon HD 7900 series that's still in retail.

Earlier this month, we also reported rumors of NVIDIA's plan to reduce prices for its some GPUs. Hence, it may be wise for system upgraders to sit by the sidelines to await good news. In the meantime, cards based on its top-end R9 290X GPU will be launching very soon; while the add-in card partners continue to flesh out the AMD R9 and R7 series with new releases.
