At the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) 2015 in Shenzhen, Intel announced that its recently-launched 14nm Braswell SoCs had already begun shipping. As the successor to Intel Bay Trail SoCs, Braswell will gradually find its way into 2-in-1 devices, laptops, miniature desktops, and all-in-one PCs over the course of the next few months and year. MSI is now looking to bring Braswell to the PC DIY and small system builder crowd by launching the MSI N3050I ECO, N3150I ECO and N3700I ECO, the first mini-ITX ECO Braswell-based motherboards.

The new boards will support Braswell-based Intel Celeron and Pentium processors and be targeted at HTPC builds or industrial devices. As expected of ECO series motherboards, the three Braswell boards will combine MSI’s own power-saving design with the ultra-low thermal design power (TDP) of the Braswell SoCs, which feature both 4 and 6 watt SKUs, for super-efficient operation.

Furthermore, the new ECO motherboards feature a wide variety of multimedia solutions such as support for the latest H.265 (High Efficiency Video Coding) hardware decoding, support for 4K displays, Blu-ray playback and 8-channel HD Audio via HDMI output. There are also two DDR3L-1600MHz SO-DIMM slots for up to 8GB of dual-channel memory, two SATA 6Gbps ports, a single PCIe 2.0 x1 slot, Gigabit Ethernet, COM port, USB 3.0 and HDMI 1.4b output.

In addition, all 3 boards will boast a fully passive cooling solution for silent operation, which should be sufficient for the low power draw of the new Celeron and Pentium processors. The combination of the boards’ silent operation, multimedia features and low TDP of Intel Braswell processors should thus make them an attractive option for users who require a small form factor system for industrial, office or living room use.
