MSI has announced the X99A Tomahawk, a new Intel X99 motherboard that was designed to offer enthusiasts the key features they need, but with none of the pomp that usually jacks up the price of boards.

The all-black board will fit into stealth-focused builds, and it lacks certain features that could be considered superfluous, like onboard RGB LEDs. However, MSI has still included a 4-pin RGB header that will allow you to connect an external LED strip and use the Mystic Lighting software to configure it.

With that said, the board does come loaded with the essential goods to keep enthusiasts happy, including beefed-up heatsinks, an audio solution that has been optimized for gaming, and a wide range of storage expansion options.

Furthermore, the I/O and audio components have been shielded against electromagnetic interference for cleaner audio signals and better performance. You'll also find a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port on the rear, so the board will be able to interface easily with the latest devices and peripherals.

Other noteworthy features include dedicated M.2 and U.2 sockets – both of which support NVMe drives – and dual Gigabit LAN ports powered by Intel I218LM and I210AT LAN controllers. Teaming is supported as well, and you’ll be able to aggregate bandwidth and prioritize games above other connections for lower latency.

To cap things off, all three PCIe 3.0 x16 slots have been reinforced with metal to reduce the risk of damage from heavy cards, as has the M.2 socket.

There is currently no word on how much the board will cost.
