Motorola Droid X Preview Shows Mobile Phone Display Size "Creep"?

Upon its launch last year, HTC's HD2 instantly became known as much for breaking boundaries with its huge 4.3-inch display as for its 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. More recently, Dell's Streak does contain a 5-inch display, but the company is branding it a tablet despite it being fitted with a cellular radio, earphone and microphone.

Now, Motorola appears to be adding to its reasonably successful Droid smartphone line in the United States, with a device which apparently squeezes in a display measuring - wait for it - 4.4 inches! According to tech website Engadget, the Droid X also packs a 1GHz processor and an 8-megapixel camera that records video at 720p.

Engadget - Apparently the Droid X has a 4.4-inch, FWVGA 854 x 480-resolution screen, though we couldn't confirm that on the device itself. Regardless, it was super crisp and the capacitive screen was mighty responsive to taps and multitouch gestures.

The Droid X may well come to local shores under the Milestone branding, so we'll be keeping a watch for this monster of a phone. In the meantime, maybe someone could get busy styling a pair of "Droid jeans" with pockets capacious enough for these monster devices.
