Just how unpopular is Windows 8? Well, if a picture is worth a thousand words, then the graph above is all you need to know. According to analytics Net Applications, there are almost twice as many people using Windows XP as compared to Windows 8 and 8.1 combined. And Windows 7 is still the most popular OS in the world, garnering a whopping 52.71% of the market share.

In light of these figures, maybe it is not surprising then to see that Microsoft has decided to go ahead and announce its latest Windows 10 OS just days ago. It is as if the company is subtly admitting that they messed up with Windows 8 and are ready to make amends to its users.

In fact, Microsoft's Joe Belfiore, who is the Corporate Vice President, Operating Systems Group at Microsoft, recently said, "The large Start screen, the notion of apps running full [screen] as they do on tablet devices - was trying to salute the idea that people would be productive on these touch devices, but we didn't quite get it right." As a result, Windows 10 will see the return of the traditional Start menu.

If you are feeling curious and adventurous the Windows 10 Technical Preview is ready for download and the OS itself is slated for release late next year.
