Xiaomi took the wraps off its latest interface, the MIUI 9 at a media event in China earlier today. Based on Android 7.0 Nougat, MIUI 9 has three main features which are system optimizations, smart assistant and a visual refresh.
Touting the new interface as lightning fast, Xiaomi claims that the launch time of apps will be explosively fast through optimized thread scheduling, intelligent CPU acceleration and dynamic resource allocation. There are also other system optimizations such as cache management and core congestion control to maintain a smooth user experience.
MIUI 9 also comes with a smart assistant that allows you to find almost anything on the phone such as photos, text messages and schedules. As the company did not reveal much about the technical aspects of the smart assistant, we do not know how well it will fare against the likes of Google Assistant, Apple's Siri and Samsung's Bixby. On the topic of search, MIUI 9 also boasts universal image search function where you can find people, location, expression, events, documents and screenshots.
MIUI 9 has a smart app launcher which will launch an app based on what you are doing at that point in time or screen contents. Xiaomi states that it only takes two steps to get all the vital information you need for your messages.
Another important feature of MIUI 9 is the split-screen mode. The multi-window feature allows you to open two apps side-by-side, which will come in handy for some of its devices with big screens such as the 6.44-inch Mi Max 2.
Aside from these new software features, Xiaomi also gave a visual refresh for MIUI 9. App icons look more consistent and modernized. For now, these mentioned features are available only for the MIUI 9 China ROM. The Global ROM might come with different features.
