The Microsoft Surface Duo rumoured to be available in the coming weeks

Microsoft is said to be making an announcement on the market availability of the Surface Duo.

Sources told Windows Latest that Microsoft is planning to launch the Surface Duo in the coming weeks so that it is ahead of Samsung. The South Korean company is believed to be unveiling the Galaxy Fold 2 in early August.

As a result of the accelerated release timeline, Microsoft may launch the Surface Duo with Android 10 and release the Android 11 update later. The company is also optimising first-party apps such as Edge and Outlook to work on the dual-screen device. In addition, new job listings by Microsoft suggest that it has plans to expand the Surface Duo team.

The Surface Duo was announced in October last year, but not much details were revealed at the event. Windows Central claimed that the Surface Duo will ship with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, 6GB RAM, a 3,460mAh battery and AMOLED displays.

The market launch of the Surface Duo could still change; CNBC reported in April that Microsoft had to change or delay some of its plans for the year due to the Covid-19 outbreak. This includes the Surface Neo and development of Windows 10X.
