Close to a year after its announcement, Microsoft finally shared the retail availability and pricing for its first Android phone.

With prices starting from US$1,399 (~S$1,922) and shipment to begin from 10 September, Microsoft claims the Surface Duo is the "thinnest mobile device on the market". The 8.1-inch PixelSense Fusion display is connected by a revolutionary 360-degree hinge that allows you to use each 5.6-inch display individually or together in a variety of modes.

Microsoft has released the official specs list for the Surface Duo. It uses AMOLED panels which are protected by Gorilla Glass. Running under the hood are Android 10, Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, 6GB RAM and 3,577mAh dual battery.

It is preloaded with Microsoft apps such as Office, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, News, and Google apps such as Search, Assistant, Calendar, Drive, Duo, Photos, Play Store, Maps, Chrome, Gmail and Messages. In terms of imaging hardware, the Surface Duo has an 11MP f/2.0 adaptive camera with PDAF and 84-degree diagonal FOV optimised with AI. The camera is capable of shooting 4K videos at 30fps and 60fps.

Other specs include USB-C 3.1, 128GB/256GB internal storage options, mono speaker, fingerprint sensor, support for 1 eSIM and 1 Nano SIM, LTE connectivity and Bluetooth 5.0. Weighing at 250g, the Surface Duo is lighter than the 276g Samsung Galaxy Fold.

At launch, the Surface Duo is stated to be only available in the U.S with AT&T and T-Mobile. There's no word on the global availability of the device.

The Surface Duo is rumoured to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, 6GB RAM, Android 10 (upgradeable to Android 11), and a 3,460mAh battery. At time of publication, details on its full specs and global availability are not available. We'll update this article as and when we have the information.
