Microsoft could be allowing one of its upcoming Surface devices to run Android apps.

Citing sources from the supply chain, market research firm IHS Markit claims that Microsoft is planning to launch a small foldable a Surface device by the first half of 2020.

The upcoming Surface device is said to have two 9-inch screens and be powered by a new 10nm Intel chip. In addition, it is rumored to be able to run Android apps and iCloud service.

If the report is true, Microsoft could undermine its own Universal Windows Platform by allowing users to use Android apps instead of Windows apps. Moreover, it could face a challenge to build an Android App Store and convince developers to code their apps to work without Google Play Services access.

Microsoft reportedly held an internal meeting recently to demonstrate the upcoming dual-screen Surface device alongside other new Surface devices. The company has been rumored to be working on a dual-screen Surface device (codenamed Centaurus) and a pocket-sized Surface device (codenamed Andromeda) for two years.
