In March, when Microsoft rebranded Office 365 to Microsoft 365, the company said it’d be rolling out a couple of new experiences in the coming months.

One of them, the Microsoft Family Safety app, is now here in limited preview on iOS and Android. To join the preview, you can fill out this form.

In Microsoft’s own words, Microsoft Family Safety is designed ‘to keep your family safe across the digital and physical worlds’. Like many digital activity tracking apps, you can use it to check your children’s screen time, the sites they visited the most and even what they’re searching for online. The app is able to pull data from Windows, Xbox as well as Android apps and games and present you with a weekly report.

A new tool in the family features for Windows and Xbox, Family Safety also allows you to set screen time limits across Windows and Xbox devices. You can set limits for individual apps and games, too. When an app limit expires, the child can ask you to approve an extension.

Regarding content control, you can set web and search filters but this only works on Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 and Xbox One devices. You’ll also get notified when someone attempts to download an app or game that’s over the set age limit.

Family Safety also supports location sharing so family members can easily see the location of others on a map in the app. You can save places your loved ones visit the most so that you can quickly determine where they are at a glance.
