Microsoft rumored to launch Surface Phone in the second half of 2016

Seen here are the Microsoft Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL.

Rumors of an all-new flagship smartphone from Microsoft surfaced (no pun intended) earlier today.

According to Windows Central, sources familiar with Microsoft's plans claim that the company has given the green light for the product team to launch an all-new flagship smartphone in the second half of 2016.

The product team is said to be led by Panos Panay and the team of engineers who built the Microsoft Surface and Surface Book. The new flagship smartphone, commonly referred as the Surface Phone, will replace a rumored Intel-powered smartphone which was initially scheduled for launch in May 2016.

Earlier in August, wmpoweruser reported that Microsoft's true flagship smartphone is the Surface Mobile which is reportedly a notch higher than the Lumia 950 and 950XL. Some of its rumored specs include a 5.5-inch Quad-HD AMOLED display, an Intel Atom x3 (SoFIA) 64-bit processor and a 21-megapixel PureView rear camera.
