Microsoft Removes Office 2013 Non-Transferable Restrictions

Microsoft has amended the Office 2013 SLA with a transferability provision to allow users to re-install the productivity suite on another PC up to once every 90 days. The change is effective immediately and encompasses Office Home and Student 2013, Office Home and Business 2013, Office Professional 2013, and all of the standalone Office 2013 applications.

In an earlier report, we mentioned an Office 2013 software license is tied to the PC that it's installed on, and it's non-transferable. The only exception is when the PC fails under warranty. If that happens, you can contact Microsoft support to activate Office 2013 on the replacement PC. However, after paying heed to customers' feedback, the Redmond software giant has backtracked on its initial decision and now allows customers to transfer the software from one computer to another.

The initial strategy by Microsoft was seen as an aggressive to push for its cloud-based Office 365; however, with this welcome change in the Office 2013 retail license agreement just made it a little more flexible and consumer-friendly.
