Microsoft releases Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 10572

You know Windows 10 Mobile is just round the corner when Microsoft increases the pace of new preview builds. Less than a week after releasing Build 10549, Microsoft has today dropped Build 10572.

If you weren’t able to upgrade to 10549 due to a bug that was only spotted last minute, the bad news today is you still can’t upgrade to today’s build. Microsoft has already worked out a fix, but will only push it out from 10575. In short, to try today’s build, the workaround is to go back to Windows Phone 8.1, and upgrade from there.

So why release 10572? In Microsoft’s own words, this build “has a bunch of great fixes and some very cool new feature additions” that the company can’t wait for Insiders to try.

Here’s a summary of what’s new:

  • Get missed call notifications and send texts on your PC with Cortana. (Yay!)
  • You can now book and track an Uber ride directly in Cortana.
  • Skype integration through the Messaging, Phone, and Skype video universal Windows apps. The Messaging app also supports animated GIFs, and includes the ability to search your messages.
  • You can now save offline maps to a SD card.
  • Improvements in the Photos app, including the ability to mark local photos as favorites and have them shuffle on the Live Tile.
  • In the Storage settings page, you can now install apps to expanded storage such as and SD card or USB drive on both your phone and PC. (Double yay!)

As usual, you can refer to Microsoft’s blog post for further details, including fixed items and known issues.
