Now that the official free upgrade period for Windows 10 is over, there’s really no incentive to keep the ‘Get Windows 10’ app installed, even if it has ceased its constant upgrade reminders.
Indeed, if you were to check Windows Update, you may now see an update whose sole purpose is to remove all software related to the Windows 10 free upgrade offer. In fact, Microsoft has released no less than seven upgrade-related updates before this, software that’s designed to ensure your device is capable of upgrading from Windows 7 or 8.1 to Windows 10.
Even if the Get Windows 10 (GWX) app is removed, Windows 7 and 8.1 users can today still get Windows 10 for free, provided they’ve a valid product key of the older OSes. Microsoft is definitely aware of this, but the company has stopped short of saying when it’ll block these keys from installing Windows 10. After all, it can only be a positive thing for Microsoft if users want to upgrade to Windows 10.
