Microsoft has released a huge Xbox One update to select testers
Did you sign up for the Xbox Insider Program? If you did, know that the first preview build has dropped today, and it’s huge, sporting many new features that are slated to be released in the upcoming Windows 10 Creators Update for the Xbox One.
You’ll find all the nitty-gritty in this post on the Xbox Wire blog, but in a nutshell, you get goodies like a revamped Xbox One dashboard; a redesigned Guide user interface, alongside a new multi-tasking system where access to music, screen shots, and Game DVR is just a button press away; the ability to set alarms and reminders using Cortana; a much easier to understand system update UI; and bitstream passthrough support for the console’s Blu-ray disc player.
For developers, there are new spatial audio output settings, which means you can add Dolby Atmos for Home Theater, Dolby Atmos for Headphones, and Windows HRTF support to your streaming media application or game.
All that said, these aforementioned features are only released to a "small subset" of Xbox Insiders (quite possibly tied to which Xbox Insider rings you belong to), with more to be given access in the coming weeks. Also, the much-anticipated Game Mode and Beam game broadcasting feature aren’t part of this preview, but they shouldn’t be very far off.
