Microsoft Delivers More Fixes for Windows 8.1 Preview

So, you’ve downloaded Windows 8.1 Preview for your Windows 8 or Windows RT device. And since it’s preview software, there’s bound to be bugs. As noted by Paul Thurrott over at SuperSite for Windows last week, Microsoft has released several updates addressing issues from Windows Store apps crashing on launch to improving the OS’ Search charm and SkyDrive video playback performance.

This week, as part of Microsoft’s monthly ‘Patch Tuesday’, a few more bugs are now squashed. As listed by WinBeta, the five latest patches address issues from Internet Explorer 11 Preview freezing or crashing when loading a webpage that contains widgets to Windows Store app instability after an app update.

It goes without saying that if you’ve installed Windows 8.1 Preview, and have yet to fire up Windows Update (just search for ‘update’ using the Search charm), now is the time to do it.

Windows 8.1 will RTM in late August, so that PC OEMs can put the updated OS in their devices and have them ready for the holidays. There’s no word yet on when current Windows 8 users can download the final bits. But we do know that the update will be free and will be delivered through the Windows Store.
