Microsoft is ceasing support for the Band and Health Dashboard app in May

More than two years after discontinuing the sales of the Band 2, Microsoft is finally going to cease support for the fitness tracker and its companion Health app.

Microsoft announced that it will end backend services and remove the apps from the Microsoft Store, Google Play and Apple's App Store on 31 May. Existing Band users can export their data before the end of May while services powered by the cloud will end in June.

While Band users can continue to record daily steps, heart rate, workouts, sleep tracking, alarm functionality and other activity data, it will be "impossible to set up the device again" if the Band is reset.

Microsoft is offering refunds for some Band users; active users who have synced data from a Band to the Health Dashboard between 1 December 2018 and 1 March 2019 can apply for the refund on the fitness tracker. Owners of the first Microsoft Band can get a refund of US$79.99 and owners of the Microsoft Band 2 can get a refund of US$175. The same refund values apply for Bands under warranty.
