Microsoft 365 Copilot pricing is announced and it won’t be cheap
In a blog post, Microsoft announced its pricing plans for its generative AI supported Microsoft 365 Copilot which adds generative AI capabilities to apps like Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Microsoft Teams. Microsoft however, stopped short of saying when it will be available.
For the price of US$30 per user per month, staff working in companies willing to pay that fee can use natural language prompts to increase their productivity and get work done. However, it is important to note that this cost is in addition to what the company is already paying for its Microsoft 365 subscription.
One of Microsoft 365 Copilot’s advantages for workers is that it can pull data from emails, calendar, chats, documents and more. “So, Copilot can generate an update from the morning’s meetings, emails and chats to send to the team; get you up to speed on project developments from the last week; or create a SWOT analysis from internal files and data from the web,” Microsoft says.
Not just the only improvement
Much like Google with improvements to Lens and its generative AI tool Bard, Microsoft has announced “multimodal capabilities via Visual Search in Chat”.
What this means is that using Visual Search in Chat, a user can upload images and search the web for related content leveraging OpenAI’s GPT-4 model. So whether a user uses a taken picture, or uses one from the Internet, and asks Bing about it — Bing can understand the context of an image, interpret it, and answer questions about it.
Visual Search in Chat is beginning to roll out now via desktop and the Bing mobile app with Microsoft saying that they are working to bring this to Bing Chat Enterprise over time.
Microsoft also announced Bing Chat Enterprise. This adds a layer of security to the consumer version of Bing Chat. Available in preview today, it will be included at no additional cost in Microsoft 365 E3, E5, Business Standard, and Business Premium. In the future, it will be available as a stand-alone offering for $5 per user, per month.
