Mercedes-AMG has just unveiled a new super saloon and it's called the EQE 53. It's Mercedes-AMG's flagship mid-size saloon and it packs a huge electric punch.

The EQE 53 has two electric motors – one on each axle – for all-wheel-drive performance. In EQE 53+ spec with the AMG Dynamic Package, the two motors combine to put out 678hp and 1000nm of torque

If that seems a bit excessive, there's the regular EQE 53 model without the AMG Dynamic Package, which produces 616hp and 950nm of torque, which is still quite a fair bit if you ask me.

With such prodigious power output and all-wheel drive, performance is, unsurprisingly, blistering. The EQE 53+ will get from a standstill to 100km/h in just 3.3 seconds. The regular EQE 53 is a smidge slower at 3.5 seconds.

Power is nothing without control and the AMG versions of the EQE come with bespoke wheel carriers, suspension, anti-roll bars, and rear subframe bushings that are 50% stiffer than non-AMG EQEs.

To match the otherworldly performance, the cars also get a next-generation interior that eschews traditional buttons for a large touchscreen interface. Mercedes-AMG calls it the MBUX Hyperscreen and it was first seen on the EQS.

Pricing and availability

Mercedes-AMG says the EQE 53 will go on sale later this year, but prices have yet to be determined. Don't expect it to be cheap, especially with the new higher taxes on luxury cars.
