MediaTek is the leader of the smartphone chip market in Q2 2021 according to Counterpoint Research.

Data from its Foundary and AP/SOC service shows that MediaTek dominated the mobile chip market with its highest ever share of 43%. This is driven by a competitive 5G portfolio in the low-mid segment and an absence of major supply issues.

Stable production yields from TSMC for RFICS and PMIC, alongside steady 4G chipset shipments also helped to strengthen MediaTek's position. On the other hand, Qualcomm faced serious supply-side constraints and yield issues in the first half of the year.

Qualcomm still dominates the 5G baseband market with 55% share, thanks to the iPhone 12 lineup and huge demand for its 5G chipsets. Since it has diversified and secured extra capacity with TSMC and other founderies, Counterpoint Research believes Qualcomm will regain the market share lost to MediaTek in the next few quarters.
