Mass production of two iPhone 12 models said to start next month
Earlier concerns of a delay in production of the iPhone 12 due to the Covid-19 outbreak could be exaggerated as a new report by DigiTimes suggests that two models are entering masss production as early as next month.
The earlier-than-expected production timeline is attributed to supply chain chatter that the two 6.1-inch iPhone 12 models are using touch modules that are outsourced from other supply chain partners while the 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch models are using OLED panels from Samsung that come with its Y-OCTA Touch technology.
There are conflicting reports on the display panel suppliers for the iPhone 12. Tipster Jon Prosser claims the 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch iPhone 12 models (also known as the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Max) will have BOE-made OLED panels while the higher-end models (6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max) will come with Samsung-made OLED panels. A separate report by The Elec suggests that LG Display has secured orders for the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max, and that BOE is not yet approved as an OLED supplier.
