macOS Big Sur beta suggests TrueDepth camera coming to the Mac

Facial recognition could be coming to the Mac lineup soon.

9to5Mac found references to the TrueDepth Camera on macOS Big Sur beta. There is a new extension on macOS Big Sur beta 3 with codes meant to support "PearlCamera". The "PearlCamera" is an internal codename used by Apple for the TrueDepth Camera and Face ID, which was revealed three years ago in leaks on the iPhone X.

There is also another code, "BioCapture" within the extension which suggests that Apple is working to bring Face ID to the Mac. 9to5Mac believes the implementation is still in the early stages and it is likely to debut when Apple introduces its own processors on the Mac. This is due to the fact that Face ID requires the Neural Engine, which is a key component of Apple's A-series chipsets, to analyse the details of a person's face through machine learning.
