MacBook sales predicted to have better growth than the iPad and iPhone this year

Although the iPhone sales will continue to contribute the most revenue for Apple, the MacBook lineup of notebooks is believed to show better year-over-year growth in unit sales this year.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the notebook shipments will rise between 13 to 16% this year, compared to 7-10% for the iPad and 6% of the iPhone. Wearables could still be the company's best growth area as they have been for the past few quarters.

Kuo also believes the MacBook Pro models with Touch Bar contributed to healthy sales growth of notebooks for Apple, which corroborated with a report from market research firm TrendForce in November.

The forecasted jump in shipments is attributed to the upcoming refresh of the MacBook lineup which could see the launch of a more affordable MacBook Air and/or a low-cost 13-inch Retina MacBook. Apple could also release MacBook models with its own ARM-based chips.
