Apple is finally switching back to the more reliable scissor switches on the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

iFixit did a teardown of the recently announced laptop and found that it has an almost identical look and feel to the desktop Magic Keyboard and the old MacBooks before the butterfly blunder. The scissor switches are so similar that iFixit claims you can swap in old Magic Keyboard keycaps.

The scissor switches of the Magic Keyboard on the 16-inch MacBook Pro is more robust than butterfly switches, and there is more space to tolerate debris within its movements. Compared to the butterfly keyboards, the Magic Keyboard have about 0.5mm more travel and keycaps are about 0.2mm thicker. In additon, the tiny clips that attach the keycaps to the scissor switches appear to be reinforced.

Apple is expected to bring the Magic Keyboard to the rest of the MacBook lineup in the coming years. In the meantime, it has extended free keyboard repairs to all MacBooks with the butterfly keyboards.
