MacBook with OLED display expected to launch in end 2024

Apple might switch to OLED for its MacBook lineup as early as end 2024.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, OLED technology offers a wider range of form factors due to the thinner and lighter design. This led Apple to plan to ship an OLED MacBook by the end of 2024 at the earliest. It is not known whether the OLED screen would debut on a Pro or Air model.

TheElec reported in November 2021 that Apple initially planned to launch an OLED MacBook in 2025, but it had been postponed due to high costs. In March 2022, TheElec claimed LG Display is aiming to supply OLED panels for the MacBook in 2025. The Korean publication later said LG Display is working with Apple on a foldable OLED panel for tablets and laptops.

LG Display is not the only company vying for Apple's orders. Chinese display maker BOE is reportedly building a Gen 8.6 IT OLED panel production line with operations starting at the end of 2024. These OLED panels are expected to be used for the Apple iPads and MacBooks.
