Global shipments of PCs declined in Q1 2023 with Apple seeing the biggest drop year-over-year (YOY).

TheElec reported last week that Apple "completely halted production" of the M2 chip from January to February this year due to lower-than-expected demand for the M2-powered MacBooks.
IDC says weak demand, excess inventory and a worsening macroeconomic climiate contributed to the steep drop in PC shipments. In the near term, IDC says PC shipments will continue to suffer with a return to growth expected towards the end of the year when the global economy improves.
An aging installed base in 2024 could be the catalyst for growth in the PC market if the global economy recovers. Consumers are expected to update their PCs and schools are likely to replace the Chromebooks. In addition, enterprises are moving to Windows 11.
