Is there a market for trackball mice? Logitech certainly seems to think so. Otherwise, how can you explain their latest trackball mouse, the Ergo M575.

This is a wireless trackball mouse with what Logitech calls "a sculpted ergonomic shape", hence the name Ergo M575.

Trackball mice have certain advantages. They don't require much space, which is great if you have a cramped working environment. And because you don't move the mouse around (you move the trackball with your thumb), it puts less strain on your wrist.

At any rate, the design of the Ergo M575 is not dissimilar to the pricier MX Ergo – Logitech's flagship trackball mouse.

The large trackball has a transparent finish coating and it uses an optical sensor to deliver up to 2,000 DPI of tracking precision. The trackball can be removed to clean the receptacle.

There are five buttons in total and all of it can be customised using the Logi Options software. The mouse will work with Windows, Macs, and iPads.

As for connectivity, the Ergo M575 supports both Bluetooth and Logitech's Unifying USB receiver.

One thing to note about the Ergo M575 is that it doesn't have built-in batteries. Instead, it requires a single AA battery to operate. Logitech claims a battery life of up to two years when using the Unifying USB receiver and up to 20 months on Bluetooth.

The Logitech Ergo M575 is available in the US now and it's priced at US$49.99 (~S$68). That's about half the price of the flagship MX Ergo. No word yet on local availability and pricing but we'll update this article once we have details.

The Logitech Ergo M575 is available in Singapore now and it is priced at S$79. You can buy it from the official Logitech Store on Lazada and Shopee.
