Arise, noble Guardians. Humanity faces yet another threat, and you may be all that stands between the dark menace of the Pyramid ships and our complete destruction. The time to fight is nigh...by which we mean it starts today.

Indeed - Bungie has just slugged us with two big punches. Not only have they announced the release date for their latest Destiny 2 expansion, Beyond Light, but they've also lifted the curtains on the game's latest season, which has been dubbed the Season of Arrivals.

What's in the box?

Content-wise, the Beyond Light expansion will take players into a changed universe, one beset by the ancient Pyramid ship above Europa and the mysterious dark empire beneath it. Apart from battling fearsome monstrosities hidden under the ice, you'll be utilising a new power called Stasis to control the battlefield and turn the tides of battle in your favour. Each type of Guardian, namely Titans, Warlocks and Hunters will harness it differently, with more details to come in summer

There's also the new 6-man Deep Stone Crypt raid for all you treasure seekers, and last but not least, there's The Rise of Eramis. United under the banner of the Fallen Kell of Darkness, the splintered houses of the Fallen are on a collision course with the Guardians, as Eramis embarks on her own journey into the Darkness.

What's up in the Season of Arrivals

Along with the Beyond Light expansion, Bungie has also launched Destiny 2's latest event season, titled the Season of Arrivals. It's the next step in the game's narrative, and the Guardians must embark on a journey for answers regarding the mysterious Pyramid ship.

Just like the previous ten seasons, the Season of Arrivals brings a ton of stuff for players to challenge and explore.

First up, there's a new Dungeon named Prophecy, where players can hunt for the new DAITO Foundry and reprised Trials of the Nine armor sets. The next stop is the Cradle on Io, where Messages of Darkness will be dropped throughout the season. Third, players will be able to take part in new public events beneath the Pyramid ship and go up against enemies of humanity summoned by the dark forces powering it.

Last and definitely not least are new rewards and gear. By focusing new Engrams in the Season of Arrivals, players will be able to fine-tune their rewards, making for more satisfying and productive "loot hunts". With regard to weapons, Season Passes are still up for grabs for 1000 in-game Silver, and purchasing one will net you the new Witherhoard Exotic Grenade Launcher and Seasonal Armour set, not to mention a medley of other cool bonuses.
