LG continues the expansion of its UltraGear lineup of premium gamer-based hardware with its UltraGear Gaming Speaker, named the GP9. This comes after the company unveiled its 17G90Q gaming laptop earlier last week and it's the first of its kind from LG.

The GP9 is a Hi-Res certified speaker utilising an ESS Sabre ES9038PRO Quad DAC. This isn't the first time LG has used Quad DAC technology as well, having used it in its V and G series phones for headphone output before it left the mobile space.

The GP9 also features some proprietary LG technology, what it calls its 3D Gaming Sound technology, which uses a HRTF (head-related transfer function) algorithm to adapt the speaker to different gaming genres.

LG has based its Game Genre Optimizer on this technology, which includes two modes named after two game genres. FPS Mode is named such as it allows gamers to listen out for small audio details, which may come in handy for spotting enemies in an FPS situation. The second mode, RTS Mode, uses spatial audio to immerse players into the world of the game they're playing, with support for DTS Headphone:X and 7.1 virtual surround audio helping in that regard.

There are also on-board mics on the GP9, as well as an echo noise cancellation algorithm for separating voice and game/background audio, which should allow users to communicate without headsets and sound good at the same time.

In terms of looks, the GP9 leans heavily on gaming aesthetics, with an all-matte black look, sharp angles and edges, and customisable RGB with the usual gamut of 16.8 million colours. It also has optical and USB-C for wired connectivity, and Bluetooth for wireless connectivity. The GP9 also has top-mounted controls for easy microphone, volume and sound modes adjustments.

And as an added bonus, the GP9 has an Eco-Product certification from SGS Société Générale de  Surveillance SA of Switzerland, a Swiss testing and inspection company. So yeah, it's environmentally conscious too.

If this speaker interests you, then it'll be nice to know that the GP9 is available now, going for S$699. It's available on LG's Lazada and Shopee storefronts, as well as on Singapore Airlines' KrisShop.
